Swansong
Monday, my first day of the week. The blessed rains have stopped and everything is greening up. A marvelous time of the year to be sure. Sometimes I like to play Cribbage on-line, fast and furious. I usually play on MSN Zone.com and along with the game you are allowed to chat. Man I can't believe some of the chatter that goes on in these rooms. Of course most of it is sexually oriented and the language is gutter talk. Check out the screen names used-whew. Of course everyone is handsome or beautiful and sexy and well endowed. But of course, it is very easy to misrepresent yourself when there are no visuals. A forty year old man can say he is a 15 year old girl, etc. So you enter these rooms with all radar functioning. I enter and type in "a few fast games on table __" then I hook up with people want to play Crib with minimum chat. Works for me.
Saw a sad show on TV last night about these young suicide bombers. WOW! Brainwashed, misdirected, hate filled youngsters believing what they are about to do will help their people and accelerate their entry into Paradise replete with virgins. This is done in the name of Religion. These devotees are being taught in schools (madras) at an early age. About our grade 1 level that anyone who does not believe in Islam is an Infidel and not worthy of life. Of course, the Great Satan is the USA and all it's minions and must be fought and defeated at all levels, by whatever means. It is not publicly stated too often but from my observations this is a true clash of civilizations and to further refine it I believe it is a war, once again, between Islam and Christianity. Most say it is a minority of radical, Islamic, fundamentalists that feel this way. However, these views have a subtle and pervasive way of spreading to the mainstream and eventually becoming mainstream. I feel a cloud passing over my soul.
Thought I was doing well when I bought a six cylinder truck a few years ago now i'm thinking 2 less would have been better. Blossoms are smelling good around the 'hood right now.

The latest attack on Stephen Harper is that he will erect a "firewall" around Alberta. Firstly this paper was proposed and signed by him while he was President of the National Citizen's Coalition. Secondly Quebec has a form of this "firewall" and has for years. Basically this so called firewall would give Albertans the choice to collect their own Income Tax, create their own Police Force, pursue it's own Health Care Policies and run it's own Pension Plan. Presently Quebec does all of this. Ontario has it's own Police Force. So this is not radical idealogy that would further divide Canada as Anne McLellan (Lib.) would have us believe. It is putting ideas out there which we might pursue, in whole or in part, to lessen Federal control of our Province. None of this is written in stone.
Don't know if you remember Harper's statement about the "culture of defeat" in the Maritimes. He upset quite a number of East Coasters but has come up with a viable solution. Namely, to allow them to retain more of the royalties from oil and gas resources. That would enable them to finance expanded economic expansion. He also proposes to boost transfer payments to the poorer provinces. Sounds like a plan.

Our prayers were answered, its been raining fairly steady since yesterday evening. We will probably total about an inch. Perfect. However, that means some downtime so Marion is on about one of her favorite activities-BINGO. Myself, I'm on the PC, reading and watching some T.V. C.C. and Steamer are lazing around.

Welcome to MSN.com
Well Marion and I went full tilt boogie on garden today. The forecast was for rain, wind maybe hail. It is 9PM and we have had a few spits but nothing serious so far-hope we get an inch.
Have you heard about the new email service to be launched soon? It's by Google and called gmail. And get this; you will have a gigabyte of storage! That means you will never have to delete your mail again, except for spam. The rest will be filed and you can search for it like on Google. Sounds good to me, I am always being reminded that my mailbox is too full. But the kicker is that it will be free!
Well Jack Layton, Leader of the New Democratic Party, made a horrible gaffe the other day. He blamed the deaths of homeless people on Paul Martin for cutting funding to Homeless Shelters and Housing. As you know I'm not a fan of Martin and his predecessor but that is carrying it too far. I feel (ugh!) Jack owes Paul a public apology. This campaign will only get worse in it's low blows. No wonder the younger generation do not show up at the polls on election day.
Tomorrows another day and I hope you have a good one.

Yahoo! Mail - swanee720@yahoo.com: "BRAINS
A three-year-old boy was taking a bath. He was looking closely at
his private parts and asked, 'Mommy, are these my brains?' His
mother answered, 'Not yet, honey.'"
Well, anyway, there is finally some rain forecast for this area. We got most of the bedding plants in and I drove in the spikes for three posts of the privacy fence. Whew! Three more to go.
Jack Layton (NDP) announced $80 Billion in "if I'm elected" promises today. I like the idea of big banks and corporations bearing the brunt of higher taxation. Especially the Banks which reported obscene net earnings last year (in the billions), while continuing to raise service charges on almost every facet of consumer activity. I thought if we used Bank Machines more and tellers less would result in lower costs for the bank and these savings might be passed on to the consumer. It is obvious Banks don't work that way. Much to ethical.
Borrowed a twenty pound sledge hammer from a friend today to pound in the posts. I have sore muscles I didn't know I had any longer.
Is it just me or does it seem strange that adopting a young child into a same-sex marriage borders on child endangerment? I don't get it. Why not live your lives quietly, together, but not always in my face.
Well Paul Martin is still continuing his undercurrent of anti-Americanism. What's hard to understand is these two countries are the biggest trading partners of each other. What is the advantage of ticking off the USA? The vast majority of the people I know disagree with the Liberal rhetoric on the U.S. The elephant may one day roll over.
The Computer Cat wishes you happy mousing.

#3. The New Democratic Party-What can you say? Should Jack be trused? Provincially this party has a pretty poor track record. He looks and talks like a good guy though. I think quite a few votes may swing his way from the Liberals.

ON THE HOMEFRONT; Finished construction of new garden furniture and bought anchors for privacy fence posts. Marion has been buying bedding plants like crazy. I got three ten foot lengths of rebar which I will fashion into a tepee for climbing beans, should look good when they get tall and occupy little space in our limited garden. Still waiting for some rain. The lawn and garden have been hard on the water bill. The new sod I laid has taken root and greened up. Gotta cut the lawn tomorrow. I have been following the American election coverage on L.A. internet radio KABC. Man they don't hold back on the rhetoric down there. The Flames are looking good for a Stanley Cup. We are bitter rivals here in Edmonton but I wish them well. It would be nice to have the Cup in Canada-not too bad for a small market hockey team. Wish we could afford a couple high priced, skilled players. The whole League needs some serious restructuring. Steamer says woof!

#2. The New Conservative Party-In the last couple of elections the Conservative and the Alliance/Reform Parties were going nowhere. They would probably not form a government in the foreseeable future. When they amalgamated I was exstatic because I felt here finally was a viable alternative to the present Government. I feel they have a good chance. Particularly since the Adscan boondogle. Many are thoroughly disillusioned and disgusted by the blatant misuse of public funds in eastern Canada. Also the wasted billion dollars on the so-called Gun Registry Program.
The wild card in this election, I feel, is Ontario. If we can swing a sizeable portion of Ontarions from not voting Liberal then the Conservatives have a chance. Of course Quebec will not go Conservative, they will vote Liberal or Bloc Quebecois.
Steven Harper must be a higher profile, in -your face candidate and ward off the multitude of attacks coming his way. And there will be many! Mainly he will be portrayed as untrustworthy to hold power and will destroy the Canadian "safety net" of social benefits. I believe Parliamentary and Senate reform will benefit us all. The lower taxes he promises I will certainly welcome.

The latest pitch by the Libs is upping the ante for Health Care. They purposefully delayed this latest "gift" until after the Election was called. It should have been implemented during their mandate. With the obscene budget surplus they have collected the last few years it would have been very simple. Before this is all over we as citizens, will have been literally offered the moon, which is the Liberal way to entice you to trust them again. But we all know the string of broken promises they have left behind over the years. Like removing the GST. And I ask you why they didn't remove the Federal Tax on gasoline (which was put there to help reduce the deficit) after the deficit was eliminated? That would have helped a lot of Canadians struggling to find the dollars to fill their tanks. Well enough of the Libs for now.

Canadian Federal Election

Well it has finally begun, the five weeks of uninterrupted bombardment of our senses to convince us to vote for one party or the other. There will be smoke and mirrors. There will be misinformation. There will be twisted facts and quotes taken out of context. Every dirty trick in the book will be used like fear and inflammatory advertising. We have all ready seen this and the race has just started.
So lets skim over the four major Party's that will be considered.

#1. Liberal- I think we are all very familiar with these characters. They have tried to run this country for the past eight years. They have misused our money, underfunded and decimated our Armed Forces, raised taxes while giving tax breaks to the wealthy, cut health care funding to the Provinces and consistently alienated our southern neighbors.
